OTI’s International Contingent Start to Return

With recent focus being centred around the Autumn Racing Carnival’s in Australia, we now turn our attention to the international racing scene, which includes four of OTI’s own for the upcoming weekend.

A highlight will be the 4yo mare Under Your Spell, who will tackle another Group 1 race on Saturday for trainer Sean Tarry and connections. Already a G1 winner at 2, the hopes are she can add another top level win to her CV and cement her value as a future broodmare. After her last run in the Group 1 Horse Chestnut Stakes, she pulled up very well and is clearly in form for her main target on Saturday. Saturday’s G1 HSH Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes presents with a small, but quality field as it is the premium race for the fillies and mares. Hopefully she can again prove what a class mare she is.

Another quality female, 3yo filly Tigrais, may return to the races on the weekend in the Group 3 Prix de la Grotte at Longchamp, France. Tigrais has had four starts for two wins so far, including the G3 Prix la Rochette in September of 2022, which she captured in very good style.

Her final piece of fast work on Monday was pleasing to trainer Christopher Head. The weather on the weekend however could be a concern, as a wet track would likely see her head straight to the Guineas instead.

Also potentially returning to the races is Everything Counts, a 3yo colt by Zoustar, who is unbeaten after winning on debut at Deauville in November last year. Since then, the colt has come along well and is pleasing trainer Pia Brandt. “His last piece of serious work was very good and I’m looking forward to his return.” said Brandt in an update to owners.

The 3yo returns in the Group 3 Prix de Fontainebleau over 1600m at Longchamp, France. See all race details and the full field here.

Last but not least, 3yo colt Deakin could also race for OTI and connections on the weekend. Deakin is entered for the 3yo Maiden at the Curragh, Ireland over 2000m. Initially not planned for Deakin to race again that soon, trainer Joseph O’Brien could well use this as a starting point for the colt. The 3yo is currently nominated for the G1 Cazoo Derby and the Irish Derby later in the year, which could well become live targets should be run well on Sunday. However, he is moreso being viewed as one to watch late in the season!

Best of luck to all connections and our international trainers!
