Bengal Boy accepts for Listed 3yo event

Bengal Boy has accepted for the 2400m Listed Galilee Series Final at Sandown on Saturday, which will be his first test at black-type level.

The 3yo son of Dundeel has had five career starts, yet to break his maiden status for connections and trainer Matt Cumani. “He showed some really nice improvement this time in and actually picked up the pace when he was asked to last start, showing he’s very much not a one paced kind of horse. He has handled everything quite well so far and I think going up in distance won’t be an issue for him at all.”

Bengal Boy’s last start gives connections hope for a bright future, with his longer-term aim this preparation being the South Australian Derby on May 13. Should he run well in Saturday’s race, we would expect to see him head to that race.

Having had a very successful son of Dundeel before, Cumani knows what Bengal Boy could be capable of. Cumani recorded a second placing in the Victorian Derby with Hit The Shot in 2020 and, with Bengal Boy bred on very similar bloodlines, we hope he can follow similarly to Derby success.

Before thinking about any Derby aspirations, we look only at Saturday’s $200k race. With a top-rated horse sitting on a benchmark of 66, our 3yo gets his chance to be right in the finish despite his maiden tag. Bengal Boy has drawn barrier 8 in a field of 10 with Billy Egan booked to ride at 57kgs.
