OTI’s Exciting Younger Brigade

While OTI has built its reputation on quality open-aged horses, in recent years we have had tremendous success with 2 and 3yos. Some were purchased as yearlings, some out of Ready to Run sales and others following trial performances as 2yos.

In recent times, Group 1 winners Aloisia (Thousand Guineas) and Vin de Dance (New Zealand Derby) and Group 3 winner Quick Thinker (Ming Dynasty Stakes), have all proven superior whilst being purchased for modest prices.

This season, OTI has continued to build on success in this sector. Our aim is to have horses compete in major carnivals such as Magic Millions and the Karaka Million, as well as the Classics in the spring and autumn of their 3yo seasons. Group-placed filly Hasstobegood is a most recent example, having finished 3rd in the Karaka Million 3yo Classic.

Currently, the OTI team includes young horses by sires Frankel, I Am Invincible, Not A Single Doubt, So You Think, Choisir and Vadamos.

A brief outline on some of these exciting prospects include:

Aquilo (Frankel x Stormy Lucy 2yo colt)
His pedigree and athleticism underpin him as a superior racing and breeding proposition.  He is now ready to trial for Matt Cumani and we could see him at the races sooner rather than later. (To view a full copy of his pedigree, click here)

I Am Ready (I Am Invincible x Quirina 2yo filly)
Purchased as a yearling in 2019 by Lloyd Kennewell, who has a deep affinity for the progeny of I Am Invincible following his success as trainer of Viddora.  This speedy filly appears to be a natural racehorse and is exciting us towards a late-autumn race debut. Choisir x Quirina yearling colt
A home-bred colt that was specifically selected on type by successful young Ballarat trainer, Mitch Freedman. He’s an athletic, well developed sprinter/miler who will be aimed at feature racing towards the end of his two-year old season before tackling the Melbourne Spring Carnival as a three-year-old. Vadamos x Penthouse Princess yearling filly
This filly, out of a sister to Melbourne Cup winner, Prince of Penzance, was described by many as the pick of the fillies from Book 1 at the recent Karaka Sales. Trained by Roger James, a renowned preparer of champion fillies, will be aimed towards three-year-old classics over 1600m and beyond. (To view a copy of her pedigree, click here)
