OTI Gazette | Issue 84

In this edition of the OTI Gazette, we have a chat to Management Trainee and Marcus Oldham graduate Lisa Grund on her views on the racing industry from a younger point of view.

We also discuss bloodstock agents being the driver of trade, look at our upcoming runners, finishing the three-part series on the history of bookmakers, reflect on our Spring Carnival so far and introduce Daiquiri, an exciting 4yo winning son of Lope de Vega.

A CHAT WITH OUR MANAGEMENT TRAINEE LISA GRUND

“Probably how big it is and how many different parts there are to it. In Germany, you wouldn’t know we have horse racing unless you are involved in it, but here it is everywhere you go. The influence it has on the society and the money that is involved in the industry was probably the biggest surprise to me. I only discovered how many different roles you can work in after a few years of actually working in racing.”

BLOODSTOCK AGENTS – THE DRIVERS OF TRADE

“The bloodstock agent has a critical role to play for prospective owners. The better ones first understand the potential buyer’s needs, then seek out suitable prospects either privately or at auctions. For the tried horse market, the good agent will fulfil the early requirements of the due diligence process by researching and understanding the history of the horse and its past training environment.”
