Will Sound Of Cannons have another breakthrough?

Sound of Cannons put in an eye-catching run last Saturday at Rosehill, flashing late to just miss out in Benchmark 78 grade. Hopefully it is the turning point for a horse who has promised more than he’s delivered to date.

The Northern Hemisphere six-year-old gelding by Nathaniel won on debut over the mile at Newmarket as a two-year-old in August 2019, competing in stakes grade in Europe before joining John O’Shea and OTI in Australia in 2020.

Sound Of Cannons has teased his owners for some time before finally being able to bring home his first Australian win at Sandown over 2400m in May this year. It was exactly 1000 days between wins. Subsequently, he hasn’t been able to secure another win, but we trust the wait won’t be as long this time.

“He has come through his last start as he hasn’t had a run so I’m happy to run him this Saturday. We’ve done some pace work with him at home and I’m sure if he can draw a gate he will be very competitive,” says trainer John O’Shea in an update earlier this week.

Sound Of Cannons will start in Race 4, The Beauford, a $300k event over 2300m at Newcastle. Booked to ride is Tommy Berry at 54kgs, jumping from barrier 2 in a field of 8 horses.

Let’s hope he can put his best foot forward and repeat his performance from Sandown.

Best of luck to all involved.
