OTI combine with Busuttin and Young to race precocious Charm Spirit 2yo

OTI Racing is looking forward to combining with Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young to race a precocious two-year-old gelding by Charm Spirit.

The New Zealand-bred acquisition, out of Viviane, was initially identified by the Busuttin team and respected New Zealand bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo, who has assisted in purchasing many of OTI’s successful New Zealand-bred horses in the past.

OTI’s General Manager, Shayne Driscoll, said the two-year-old impressed all parties in his breeze up performance where he comfortably broke eleven seconds.

“The supple action and speediness he displayed in his breeze up were very enticing, particularly since the jockey didn’t put him under pressure and the track was rated slow,” Driscoll commented.

“Early signs indicate he will be suitable over sprinting distances, although we wouldn’t be surprised if he gets up to 1600m down the track,” he added.

Descending from the Invincible Spirit x Volksraad mix, the gelding’s breeding was another appealing factor in the purchase. His sire, Charm Spirit is a triple Group 1 winning son of Invincible Spirit who continues to boost his sire credentials with nine Stakes-winners to date.

On his dam’s side, Viviane has already produced Group 3 winner Cismontane, as well as five other winners, while the gelding’s second dam, Eustaci, has also proved a quality producer.

“The exciting Invincible Spirit x Volksraad mix in his bloodline made him a most attractive acquisition, and Viviane’s stock continues to be precocious on the track, so his breeding ticked all the right boxes,” Driscoll said.

“Considering his robustness, we feel he will be an early runner with ambitions for him to get to the track in autumn and ideally, he will demonstrate enough ability to be a Guineas prospect.”
