Jaywalk – Last relative of Champion horse, Reckless

One of the last links with the legendary stayer Reckless needs a home. Jaywalk, a 19yo mare who has recently been retired would love to spend her last days with a good carer.

As the great granddaughter of Reckless’ dam and the dam of the Chester Manifold winner, Amadeus, there is no more deserving mare than Jaywalker to be cared for in her later days.

Joan Walker, a well-known figure on Victorian racetracks and owner of Jaywalk for many years enjoys direct family links back to Reckless with her broodmares and, having retired Jaywalk is looking for a home for her girl.

Reckless won the Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane Cup before running second in the Melbourne Cup in 1977. His trainer was none other than the strapper of Phar Lap, Tommy Woodcock. Tommy and Reckless, although well known for their exploits on the racetrack are responsible for one of the iconic images of racing – one that shows the true care afforded our thoroughbreds.

We’d love to see that same care past on to his great granddaughter Jaywalker in her final years.
