Good first up performance from Currumbin

Recently introduced 3yo gelding Currumbin made his race debut at Dundalk last Friday, expected to run well. Currumbin finished third in a field of 14, beaten just 1.5 lengths.

“It was an encouraging effort. He got cover throughout the race, gradually improved from the rear and finished off strongly. He is still doing a few things wrong, but he will learn a lot from the experience on Friday. He gives every indication that he’ll be suited over further and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him win second up.”, commented OTI’s Terry Henderson to owners after the race.

Currumbin finished third on debut at Dundalk.

The 3yo was originally purchased at the Irish Breeze Up Sales by his young trainer John O’Donoghue, on the recommendation of de Burgh Equine, long-time friends of OTI. We were delighted to join in the owenership, knowing that he was closely related to Tom Melbourne, Araaja and Fiorente.

After Friday’s run, the 3yo will continue his racing career in Ireland, before potentially coming to Australia at the end of this season. Currumbin’s breeding, athleticism and conformation attributes indicate that he will be at his best at distances beyond 2000m.

We wish his connections the best of luck for the future.
