Daqiansweet Junior to make his OTI debut this Saturday

Daqiansweet Junior will make his much-anticipated debut for OTI and our partners on Saturday in the Group Two Trelawney Stud Championship Stakes (Race 7 – 1:35 pm), over 2100m at Ellerslie (NZ).

Group One-winning jockey Opie Bosson, who knows the horse well, is booked to ride from barrier one. With the proven training partnership of Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, the progressive gelding goes into the race with a lot in his favour.

His ‘will-to-win’ attitude has seen him already achieve dual wins this campaign over 2000m and 2100m before a narrow last start placing in the Group 3 Manawatu Classic over 2000m.

“If the weather holds out, we expect him to be competitive in Saturday’s race and look forward to seeing his debut in the OTI silks.

“It is most exciting to see Daqiansweet Junior step out for us for the first time this Saturday. This race appears on paper to be of similar quality to that of his last start third, a race which we thought he was very unlucky not to win.” said Shayne Driscoll, General Manager of OTI Racing.

“With that in mind, we expect him to be a strong winning chance this weekend and look forward to an exciting future with our owners.”

Following this weekend’s start, he will journey across the ditch in preparation for the $600,000 Group One Queensland Derby on May 29 and settle in Australia, where he will continue his career. The Baker/Forsman combination will continue to train the horse in the lead up to the [Queensland] Derby before being placed with an Australian trainer.

Daqiansweet Junior is a gelding of quality. He is a beautifully balanced, strong type and has the hallmarks of a racehorse that we anticipate will be competitive in top races in Australia for many years.

We wish the connections of this exciting horse all the very best of luck!
