Cloudland set for Provincial-Midway Championships Final

A great opportunity arises for the 4yo son of Swiss Ace at this Saturday’s meeting at Randwick. He earned his place in the Provincial-Midway Championships Final in his last start, finishing second in the 1400m Qualifier at Kembla Grange.

He’s proven to be a most competitive horse in his career so far with five race starts including 3 wins, a second and a third placing. Well remembered for his first career start, where he almost dislodged his rider and still won the race, the gelding has come a long well and has matured with his racing experience.

Comments from jockey Jeff Penza after his last race were: “He jumped really well and travelled good throughout the race. Unfortunately he wanted to hang in a little bit so I had to get back to the rail to give him some guidance but he ran a very honest and good race. I’m happy with his effort and he’s now qualified himself for the final.”

Cloudland finishing 2nd in the Championships Qualifier on March 18, 2023.

Since his last start he has worked well in his training and had a few nice gallops, his latest one with blinkers, which he will also wear on race day.

“Cloudland galloped on the course proper on Tuesday morning with a lead horse out in front. He wasn’t being asked to catch the lead horse, they were simply there to give him something to concentrate on and aim at in front. His recovery post gallop was very good and he’s ready for the weekend.” says trainer Kris Lees.

Cloudland will race in a field of 15, jumping from barrier 5 with Nash Rawiller booked to ride. See the full field and all race details here.

Best of luck to all connections!
