Banderas returns as a 3yo

Since trainer Michael Bell said “he’s one to watch out for”, connections have been most excited to see Banderas, a 3yo son of Lope de Vega, return to the races.

After a very promising first start over 2000m in November last year, where he finished 5th, unlucky not to get closer after being held back down the straight, Banderas has enjoyed some quiet time prior to a resumption of work at the start of this year.

Jockey Daniel Tudhope commented after his debut run: “He settled back at the rear of the field and travelled really well throughout the race. Around the last corner he was on the outside, looking for a run, but was just very unlucky not to get through. He still had plenty left in the tank, he’s got a very bright future.”

Banderas finishes an unlucky fifth on debut at Newcastle.

“He has been doing really well in his gallop work and keeps impressing in his training, I couldn’t be any happier with him. The race on Thursday will suit him really well.”, says trainer Michael Bell in his latest update to connections.

He will return in the 3yo+ Novice Stakes over 2223m at Southwell, UK. See all race information and the full field here.

Best of luck to all connections!
