Zipitsweetie on course towards New Zealand Oaks

Zipitsweetie will be out to continue OTI’s strong history of success with New Zealand bred fillies when she takes her place in the 2400m Group 1 New Zealand Oaks at Trentham on March 14.

The daughter of Uncle Mo, is out of Zubara, a mare by pre-eminent staying stallion, Zabeel. She was acquired after her most recent start at Riccarton on February 21, a race in which she dispensed of her maiden status in fine fashion.

This effort came on the back of two previous luckless performances, including a run behind leading Oaks contender and multiple Group winner, Jennifer Eccles.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the acquisition is that trainer, Michael Pitman, believes Zipitsweetie’s achievements to date are put down to raw ability. He identifies her as a filly with vast improvement to come, both physically and mentally, which will emerge with additional time and race experience.

Australian fillies features in the middle of the year are also under strong consideration, with Trentham to give an indication as to whether the filly presses on towards Group 1 racing in South Australia, or be targeted towards a race such as the Group 1 Queensland Oaks at the end of May.
