This Saturday will likely see the return of Wymark, a 4yo son of Savabeel who was an impressive winner of the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes for Michael Freedman last season. Given a healthy break following his midfield finish in the Derby, we jumped at the opportunity to join his ownership, and he’ll now race in the OTI colours.
Wymark rapidly progressed once tested over 1600m and beyond as an autumn 3yo, winning 4 races in a row, culminating in his Group 2 victory. He can handle both firm and soft going, has a favourable pattern of racing and can sustain a strong sprint. A beautiful, strong type, Wymark is typical of the Savebeel breed in both looks and racing capabilities.
Wymark wins Group 2 Tulloch Stakes
Wymark has trialled up nicely over 900m on two occasions this preparation, the latest of those at Canterbury Park on January 9 with James McDonald on board. Importantly, he showed good enthusiasm and was full of running after the line, signalling he’s ready to get his campaign underway.
Wymark finishes 3rd in most recent trial (OTI silks).
He has been accepted to run in the 1300m Benchmark 88 at Rosehill on Saturday with Zac Wadick booked, claiming 2kgs. It’s a distance well short of his best and given it’s his first outing in over 8 months; he should take considerable improvement from the run.
Connections, both new and old, will just be happy to see him getting through the line well as we build towards some autumn targets.
We’re looking forward to seeing Wymark step out this Saturday and are excited to be involved in his future with Michael Freedman and the team.
