The weekly review and preview | January 9, 2017

A brief look back at our recent runners.

Fastnet Blast (2nd) ran a brave race over 2000m at Newcastle on Tuesday night, being beaten by a neck. This was his best run to date and a win is surely due.

St Rumon (7th) ran OK from a wide barrier, without cover on Wednesday at Sandown in a 1300m maiden. He is set to race again this week and we hope to see an improved performance over further.

Gallic Chieftain (1st) showed his fantastic turn-of-foot at Morphettville on Saturday over 2250m to win convincingly by 3 lengths. This fiery little chestnut has been flying since arriving to Australia in spring. He will now head out for a well-deserved spell.

Caillebotte (9th) ran a disappointing race at the Gold Coast on Saturday over 2200m. Matt Dunn has suggested changing some of his gear in a bid to spark this gelding’s interest in racing again.

Thanos (8th) put in an even effort at Caulfield on Saturday over 1700m after settling 3 wide with no cover, he held on bravely, only to drop away over the last 200m.

Coming up this week….

Stone Warrior has accepted for a BM64 over 1800m at Sandown on Wednesday. With a drop down in class following a good 3rd in the city last start and over further distance, he should prove hard to beat.

Wee Frankie is aimed for a BM58 over 1600m on Friday at Ararat.

St Rumon has been nominated for a 1400m maiden at Cranbourne on Friday and also a 1400m maiden at Camperdown on Saturday.

Renew has been nominated for a BM90 over 2500m at Flemington on Saturday. This boy has been building up to this distance and Darren believes he is close to a win, after hitting the line strongly in his last start over 2400m.

Master Zephyr is set to run at Flemington over 2000m on Saturday. Coming into this race with good form, finishing 2nd over the same distance at Flemington on New Years Day, he is due a win.
