Pemberley will head north of the Murray on Friday in search of success in the Listed Wagga Cup (Race 7, 4.20pm).
Trained by Ciaron Maher, the five-year-old came of age last preparation when winning the Murtoa Cup before going on to place in the Herbert Power and ultimately gaining a start in the Caulfield Cup.
Pemberley showed he had returned in tremendous order with a fast-finishing fifth when resuming over the mile at Caulfield in an on-pace dominated affair. He had been trialling strongly leading into the run so it pleasing to see him perform so well.
The 2000M of the Wagga Cup is ideal for Pemberley second-up and from an advantageous draw, Jay Ford should enjoy a lovely run in transit. The Maher stable have had this race in mind for some time and this gelding has historically improved second-up.
Pemberley’s short-term future lies in Queensland where he will be targeted at a couple of races over the Winter Carnival. The ultimate aim is seen as the Brisbane Cup over 2400M on June 10.
A most competitive run is expected from Pemberley on Friday and OTI would like to wish all owners the best of luck.
