A Preview: Warrnambool Day 3

Day two of the Warrnambool Carnival provided much excitement for OTI partners with both Kellstorm and Renew producing wins.

OTI would like to congratulate the club on the successful auction held to raise funds for Brenton Primmer as he strives to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. We look forward to racing the son of Magic Albert with the winning bidder.

A highlight on the final day is the running of the time-honoured Warrnambool Cup (Race 8 – 3.15pm) over 2350M.  Having won the race as recently as 2015 with Tall Ship, Grey Lion will be out to repeat the dose for OTI in 2017.

Trained by Matt Cumani, Grey Lion was runner-up in the 2016 Geelong Cup before a midfield effort in the Melbourne Cup. He resumed at Caulfield on Easter Saturday and copped a check rounding the home bend before dropping out late.

By Galileo, this striking grey gelding will derive plenty of benefit for his first-up run. He’s certainly better suited up to the 2350M of the Warrnambool Cup and, if he can get through the testing ground, should be very competitive.

Stone Warrior will tackle the Neville Wilson Final over 1700M (Race 9 – 3.55pm.). This ultra-consistent galloper is coming off a rare poor performance when down the track at Caulfield. That effort was the first time he has been unplaced from seven starts this campaign and certainly out of character.

Jockey, Daniel Moor, said the ground was simply ‘too hard’ for him that day and he will enjoy getting onto softer going at the ‘Bool. Drawn well in gate three, Moor should secure a nice run in transit and give the gelding every chance to return to form.

It has been a great Carnival to date and we both congratulate the Warrnambool Racing Club and wish them all the best ahead of the last day.
