Valuable black-type added by our star ‘Girls’ on Saturday

While we didn’t get the ultimate end result over the weekend, three most exciting mares/fillies added valuable black-type placings to each of their pedigrees.

Lady Laguna ran second in the Group 1 George Ryder at Rosehill two weeks after a brilliant win in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes. She was terrific again, showing the win a fortnight ago was no fluke. The race was also a test to see if she could run out the 1500m, and she ticked that box. Trainer Annabel Neasham will keep the Group 1 Doncaster Mile as an option, or she could have four weeks between runs and run in the Group 1 All-Aged Stakes over 1400m on April 20, 2024.

Lady Laguna runs 2nd in the G1 George Ryder.

Also competitive at Rosehill was Rivaport, who finished third in the Group 3 Epona Stakes. The step to 1900m was most suitable for the 6-year-old mare, and if she draws a touch softer next time, she could go very close to winning. Rivaport will have a light couple of weeks before heading to the 1600m Group 2 Queen of the South, which leads to the 2000m Listed Centaurea Stakes, also in South Australia.

In Victoria, Vivy Air ran an excellent race at The Valley, adding further Group form to her pedigree with a 3rd placing in the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes. While she wasn’t afforded the chance to build into the race as she would have liked, she was the best chaser from the back. She looks to be on track for the 1800m Group 3 Auraria Stakes in South Australia on April 13, 2024.

All three girls have done a terrific job in their preparations and we look forward to the exciting targets ahead of them!
