Saganti was the first of our triallers this week on Monday at Randwick, stepping out in what was his first trial experience in Australia. Purchased out of France last year, he brings strong formlines having been Group 3-placed behind Delius, who was subsequently purchased by Australian connections for 1.3m Guineas in October.
Our son of Zarak is still learning his craft being a lightly-raced 4yo, but is certainly held in high regard by the Price/Kent stable. We were very pleased with his trial performance and off on an attractive rating of 86, he shapes as one to follow when he gets his campaign underway in early April.
Saganti trials well at Rosehill (OTI silks).
At Pakenham this morning, we saw another classy stayer in Deakin work home nicely in preparation for the Listed Roy Higgins on Saturday week. Having opted to bypass the Adelaide Cup, today’s hitout was used to keep him up to the mark as he looks to secure a Melbourne Cup berth at Flemington next week. Phillip Stokes has done a terrific job with the gelding to date, in what is still his first Australian racing preparation.
Deakin finishes 2nd in Pakenham trial (red/black/white silks).
Later in the morning, Lafont, a half-sister to our Group 2 Adelaide Cup winner Daqiansweet Junior, closed off her trial well. The daughter of Wrote has taken some time to mature, but she’s made good progress this preparation. With a second trial now under her belt, she’s ready to make her race debut and we’re hopeful she can display similar staying characteristics to her accomplished sibling!
Lafont trials nicely at Pakenham (light blue silks with dark blue cap).
