Tip Of The Spear ready for G2 test

Tip Of The Spear is entered to run in the Group 2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil over 2800m at Longchamp, France on Thursday. It will be his first outing on French soil and for his new ownership group.

The dark grey gelding has raced three times in Ireland, winning twice – in his last start as a 3yo over 1800m, and on his seasonal debut as a 4yo over 2050m. Tip Of The Spear has shown that he has the makings of a high-quality horse, which he will look to prove in a quality field.

Tip Of The Spear’s sire, Epaulette, has developed a solid reputation for producing quality stayers in both Europe and Australia. Both the Blue Diamond and the Tasmanian Derby have been won by his sons.

Monet’s Lady, the dam of Tip of the Spear, is the producer of three winners. She has a strong family background with Air Marshall and Break Bread featuring as Group winners from 1600m to 2400m. The pairing with Epaulette provides the pedigree with a double cross to the champion racehorse and stallion, Mill Reef.

The race is certain to be a test for the horse as he steps up to this level for the first time. Trainer Mario Baratti is happy with the horse’s work at home and is very confident he will run well over this distance.
