Owners of 2yo Filly Tigrais were thrilled to see her graduate to G3-winning status last start in the Prix La Rochette at Longchamp, having only left maiden grade at the start before. It was a big step up, but one that her connections certainly believed her capable of.
Tigrais will now take another big step, contesting the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere over 1400m for two-year-old colts and fillies on the same card as the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. It is one of, if not THE, biggest days of racing in France and the excitement is growing. It would be a phenomenal training performance to see a young filly step from maiden company to G1 winner in three starts.
“She has come through the G3 win well and her work has been very positive. We are full steam ahead for Sunday,” says trainer Christopher Head.
Tigrais won’t be the only horse connected to Australia on the prestigious l’Arc weekend. 2021 Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant will possibly compete in the feature race, the PRIX DE L’ARC DE TRIOMPHE. There is currently some conjecture about the possibility of Verry Elleegant not gaining a run in the race, which would be quite extraordinary given her esteemed career to date.
Will Tigrais be the curtain raiser for Verry Elleegant, or indeed might she be, for Aussies at least, the main event?
Either way we look forward to seeing Tigrias compete at Group 1 level on the weekend.
Best of luck to all involved!
