The girls taking over the stage this weekend

With multiple runners in different states and countries this weekend, it will be two females that will take the spotlight given their entries in Group races.

Well known 4yo mare Toregene, who won the $500k Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final at Flemington on Oaks Day, will contest her first Group 3 race at Caulfield on Saturday. With only five starts under her belt, four of them wins, the ceiling of this daughter of Mongolian Khan is yet unknown.

After her most recent win trainer Matthew Williams said “I don’t think we have seen the best of her yet. One thing I really like about her she’s so honest, she really keeps trying and hits the line very well. She pulled up terrific and her recovery after the race has been really good, it makes her training so much easier. Going to Caulfield, she certainly earned her chance to have a crack at some black type races!”

Under Your Spell will show her talent in the Group 2 IPI Tombe Challenge over 1600m at Turffontein in South Africa early on Sunday morning.

Under Your Spell has now had 12 career starts for 6 wins, 3 seconds and 1 third. Most runs have been at the top level where, as a juvenile, she won a Group 1 (at 1200m), Group 2 (at 1600m), Group 3 (at 1100m) and a Listed race (at 1000m).  She has also finished second in both a Group 1 and a Group 2.

The long-term plan for her is to head towards Europe, which should see her very competitive in black-type races. We look forward to her run on Saturday and her future career in Europe.

Hopefully we can see a bit of girl power this weekend!
