Flashing Steel kicks off his campaign

Flashing Steel, a 3yo gelding by Not A Single Doubt, will kick off his campaign for OTI and new connections this Wednesday at Warwick Farm, where he’s accepted in the 1300m Maiden for trainer Annabel Neasham.

Acquired in mid-September as part of the Magic Millions TFI Gelding Reduction Sale, noting his competitiveness at Group 3 level (3rd in the Canonbury Stakes) and form around the likes of Sweet Ride (G3 winner) and Best of Bordeaux (G2 winner and G1 placed), it was decided we would team up with Annabel Neasham Racing.

After being gelded at the end of his last preparation, he is expected to show a good deal of improvement. So far he has pleased everyone around him at the stables and on the track.

“I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him on the track. He shows an awful lot of ability at home so if the penny can drop with him now that he’s gelded, he’s without doubt a metropolitan horse,” says trainer Annabel Neasham, who is well known for her success with horses like Zaaki and M’ounga.

Flashing Steel has performed well on a range of surfaces, and his ideal distance is yet to be established, but the run on Wednesday will decide which direction he will go this preparation. Should he not run on Wednesday, there are other options for him later in the week.

Chad Schofield is booked to ride at 57.5kg from barrier 11 in a field of 12 in Race 1.

Hopefully we can see him flash home…

Best of luck to all connections!
