Sweet success awaits progressive New Zealand bred

We are delighted to announce the purchase of exciting New Zealand-bred and raced staying prospect Daqiansweet Junior.

Daqiansweet Junior

Trained by Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, the imposing son of Sweet Orange is a well-conformed individual with an excellent temperament and ‘will-to-win’ attitude.

Already a dual winner, this later developing type boasts a narrow last start placing in the Group 3 Manawatu Classic over 2000m. There he succumbed to interference on the turn and again over the last 50m, ultimately hindering his winning chances.

We can confirm that the talented galloper will don our colours in Saturday weeks Group 2 Trelawney Stakes at Ellerslie over 2100m, before embarking on Australian shores in preparation for the $600,000 Group 1 Queensland Derby on May 29.

Our CEO Terry Henderson is delighted by the acquisition, saying that an exciting journey awaits OTI and our prospective connections.

“This gelding is a most exciting individual; He’s a beautifully balanced, strong type who should not only be competitive during his 3-year-old season but also as an aged horse,” Henderson said.

“Although not fashionably bred, this fellow has the hallmarks of a high-quality racehorse who will be competitive in top races in Australia for many years to come.

We highly value our relationship with Murray and Andrew, who now have produced two Derby winners for OTI owners (Quick Thinker and Vin de Dance) and sold another (Kibbutz). Hopefully Daqiansweet Junior will be the fourth.“

A decision on future training arrangements will be made following the Brisbane campaign.
