Superbly bred Siyouni colt joins OTI

With great excitement, we are pleased to announce the purchase of the superbly bred Siyouni two-year-old from the family of Melbourne Cup placegetter, and now promising stallion Jakkalberry.

European agent and renowned judge of a horse, Hubie de Burgh, secured the colt from the Arqana breeze-up sales in May and strongly recommended he join OTI’s stable. The recommendation was echoed by Ed Walker, another long-time advisor and trainer for OTI, who was most keen to train him.

Enhanced by his performance and presentation at the Breeze Up sales, he is a stunning looking bay standing 16 hands high. He breezed fluently with a long stride, demonstrating all the aspects of a potential top racehorse.

The Siyouni colt out of Shamardal mare, Joyful Hope, could not have more impressive credentials for the European classics he will be aimed towards. Siyouni, already France’s top sire and now standing for $220,000 (140,000 Euro), is rapidly establishing himself as one of Europe’s leading stallions, having already produced the winner of the Prix de l’Arc (Sottsass) and, this year, the French Guineas and Derby winner (St Mark’s Basilica).

Joyful Hope, a listed winner and second in the Italian Oaks, is the half-sister to the dam of Jakkalberry, Crackerback King and Awelmarduk, all Group one winners, plus several other stakes-winning stayers. Previously best known in Australia as a Melbourne Cup placegetter, Jakkalberry now makes headlines as the sire of emerging stayers, such as three-time Derby winner Explosive Jack.

Ed Walker, who OTI has used for many years as a trainer in the UK, is naturally delighted with the horse. From his base in Lambourn, Ed will give the Siyouni colt every chance to reach his targets before the colt makes his way down-under, as we have successfully done previously with high calibre horses such as Eagles Crag and Ruscello.

He’s a most thrilling acquisition, and we look forward to his promising future.
