Stayers out to sustain recent success

Last start winners Tigre Royale and Corncrake will be looking to back up their most recent successes at midweek meetings today.

Tigre Royale (barrier seven), a resounding four length victor over the Sandown Hillside circuit on March 11 will contest a 2400m BM70 over the same course (Race 4 – 4:40pm AEDT).

The four-year-old son of Redwood, whose two career victories have both come over the distance, has bounced out of the run. Trainer Archie Alexander is confident that the promising stayer can continue to progress through his grades.

Corncrake provided OTI partners with reason to celebrate when he broke through for his first Australian win at Kembla Grange on March 13.

Assisted by a smart ride from Hugh Bowman, the grey forged clear over the final furlong. The strength he demonstrated when the pressure was applied was very pleasing for all to see.

Bowman will again partner Corncrake (barrier four) in this next assignment, a 2400m BM76 (Race 4 – 3:20pm) that trainer Matthew Smith hopes is another step on the path to better races. As a winner of three consecutive races in the United Kingdom before relocating to Australia, he has always been held in high regard.

Fairlight (barrier three) will take his place alongside Corncrake. An improved performance up to 2400m is expected second up, where the five-year-old is a three time winner.

Best of luck to all connections!
