Spring contenders I’m Thunderstruck and Daqiansweet Junior return

With the first Group 1 of the season kicking off this Saturday, we see our Spring contenders return to the track at Caulfield.

Our Golden Eagle winner I’m Thunderstruck has impressed in his lead up gallops and trials, and according to trainer Mick Price is humming, ready for the G1 Memsie Stakes.

Even though he will be competing against stable mate Illation, who has been very popular since winning the Adelaide Guineas earlier this year, Price went on the record to say about I’m Thunderstruck “do not for a second underestimate this horse, he is going super!”

I’m Thunderstruck is a little more forward for his first up run than he was in the autumn and Price has no doubt that if the race is run the right way, he will finish strong.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins. We will be cheering”, said Price.

OTI’s Adelaide Cup winner, Daqiansweet Junior, will also make his return in the Heatherlie Stakes over 1700m.

While he will no doubt be improved for the run and additional distance, the NZ-bred gelding trained by Phillip Stokes has been working well at home and is all set for his return on Saturday with Jamie Kah booked to ride.

“His work has been very strong and he did it very easy to the line in his gallop on the Poly the other day”, said Stokes.

Good luck to all connections and we look forward to Saturday!
