OTI’s Trial Tuesday – March 2023

Last weeks trials included some exciting horses, who are now ready to return to the races or make their debut.

Youngster Vivy Air, who is yet to make her race debut, delivered another good performance last Thursday after winning her first trial at Ballarat two weeks ago.

“We were pleased with her performance in the Ballarat trial and expected her to take good improvement from the hitout. She was given an 850m jumpout on a soft track at Camperdown on Thursday morning for her second trial. Ridden by Declan Bates in the six horse field, she was a little slow to leave the barriers but quickly mustered speed to settle third behind the two leaders. Sticking to the inside coming around the turn, she worked to the line nicely in the straight.”

Vivy Air wins her first trial this preparation at Ballarat (dark blue silks).

Trainer Archie Alexander feels the filly is now ready to head to the races, with a likely debut option coming at her home track of Ballarat next Tuesday.

Also returning to the races is Flashing Steel, who was back at the trials after a slight hiccup a few weeks ago. “He trialled quite nice, jumped well and went straight across with the stable mate and just sat in behind him. He gave a good kick and we chased them to the line finishing second. He’s ready to go to the races.” said jockey Sam Clipperton after the trial.

The son of Not A Single Doubt will most likely race on Wednesday week at Canberra over 1200m.

Both Struck Twice and Cadazio, who are trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr have also completed their final trials and will both return to the races next week.

Cadazio, who won on debut at Geelong, will return at Sandown on the 29th of March over 1600m after a very good second trial, where he finished a few lengths behind Price/Kent horse Illation. Price’s comments after the trial were “He is a very nice 3yo stayer, jumped well and relaxed straight away which is a great sign. Once he balanced up, he got into a nice rhythm and will be progressive through his runs.”

Stablemate Struck Twice, the full-brother to I’m Thunderstruck, completed his third trial at his home track of Cranbourne, finishing second. “He’s a nice staying type and will return over a mile, which will suit well. He galloped with a sharper horse and actually went really well, he needs quite a bit of encouragement, but once he has that he quickens nicely. I think once he gets over a bit more distance we will see more of him.” said Michael Kent Jnr post gallop on Saturday.

We look forward to having all four horses at the races soon and are excited to see Vivy Air debut.

Best of luck to all connections!
