OTI Racing | Weekend Preview | January 20, 2023

We kick off our weekend with Step Aside who tackles his third-up assignment tonight at Canterbury Park over 1250m. He is certainly knocking on the door for his first career win, following two narrow defeats at Warwick Farm. In what looks to be a tactical affair, it will be great to once again have the services of James McDonald, who has elected to retain the ride. Chris and the team have continued to be happy with the horse, so hopefully we can see him break through this evening before some loftier targets are set.

Holstein finally broke his run of outs at Eagle Farm last start, with a strong front running performance. He has trained on well since the win and for the first time in his career will step out in trip to 2020m. From the middle draw, he should be able to adopt similar tactics to last start and put himself right up on the speed. Although he steps up into Saturday grade here, his win last start gave us some confidence that he can continue to progress.

Melanin will have his second career run on Sunday, after showing on debut that he still has plenty to learn. He is sure to have taken significant benefit from that outing and will be better suited up to the mile on Sunday. From the inside barrier, he should be afforded a nice run in transit, so we hope to see him doing his best work late.

Intuitu returns to the races on Sunday night in a competitive Class 2 affair at Cagnes-sur-Mer. The Almanzor entire has shown plenty of talent in his short career to date, so we are excited to see what he can do this preparation. Sunday’s run should hold him in good stead for a Listed target in three weeks’ time.

All the very best of luck to our connections!
