Gambu

Gambu has continued to go from strength-to-strength this campaign, evidenced by a dominant 6 length win at Eagle Farm last start. He jumps significantly in grade here but with a light weight and services of Jim Byrne again, he looks well-placed. Although he would probably be advantaged further out to 2400m, if he gets clear air on straightening, he can be ultra competitive.

Race 2 – 1:38pm | 2200m BM78 | T: Chris Waller | J: Jim Byrne 54kg | Barrier 2 | Saddlecloth 12

Ballarat

Current Track Rating: Soft

Vardani

Vardani was a touch underwhelming at Flemington last start but had endured a less than ideal lead up to that race. Now third up and out to 2000m, he should start to produce more competitive showings. What he doesn’t want is any further rainfall, as he’s far better suited on a good surface.

Race 6 – 3:00pm | 2000m BM84 | T: Archie Alexander | J: Zac Spain 59kg | Barrier 14 | Saddlecloth 5

Vardani (FR) ridden by John Allen wins the Southwest Equine Veterinary Group BM64 Handicap at Warrnambool Racecourse on December 09, 2021 in Warrnambool, Australia. (Alice Miles/Racing Photos).

Future Score

Future Score’s return in the Listed Cup Day Plate was full of merit and a top four showing here would not surprise. To read more about his chances, please click here.

Race 8 – 4:20pm | 2000m Listed Ballarat Cup | T: Matt Cumani | J: Fred Kersley 54kg | Barrier 5 | Saddlecloth 11

Future Score (IRE) ridden by Fred W Kersley wins the TAB Cranbourne Cup at Cranbourne Racecourse on October 11, 2020 in Cranbourne, Australia. (Ross Holburt/Racing Photos).

Green Fly

Green Fly impressed us in his Australian debut when boxing on well up the inside on inferior ground at Flemington. He’s come on for that outing and is more than capable of being in the mix in what looks a strong race. He will likely be better suited out to 1600m-1800m but a second run over this journey will have him primed for a third-up assignment.

Race 10 – 5:40pm | 1400m BM84 | T: Anthony & Sam Freedman | J: Ben Melham 57kg | Barrier 14 | Saddlecloth 11

Green Fly winning at Saint-Cloud, France in June 2021.

Lorne

Lorne has done a terrific job so far this season, winning twice and placing a further three times in her eight starts. Back out to 3000m, the filly is afforded another chance of being very competitive. She’s given her trainer Mario no reason to stop the campaign as she’s continued to furnish in work. Hopefully she can reward her owners here again before her plans for next season are finalised.

Race 4 – 10:20pm | 3000m 3yo Class 1 | T: Mario Baratti | J: TBA 55.5kg | Barrier TBA | Saddlecloth 10

Lorne winning at Fontainebleau, France in September 2022.

Best of luck to all involved!
