OTI RACING | WEEKEND PREVIEW | May 15, 2021

This weekend we see a lighter than usual line-up of runners before the OTI horses venture north to take on the Queensland Racing Carnival next week.

Three runners will represent OTI Racing in Victoria this weekend, with Haky and Dusk Falls set to start at Flemington on Saturday, and Peronne accepted for Casterton on Sunday.

SATURDAY

Flemington

HAKY will welcome the soft going at Flemington tomorrow when he lines up in a 2000m Hcp (Race 4 – 1:30 pm).

Following a dash-up on the synthetic hill track at Ballarat on Thursday morning, trainer Archie Alexander was pleased with his work ahead of Saturday’s assignment.

Although 2000m is typically too short for the seven-year-old, with good speed, we would like him to take a sit from barrier 4 and hit the line strongly under Ben Allen. Though he can be quirky, he is a good horse on his day, and we expect to see a nice race from him.

Haky winning at Flemington

The Matthew Williams trained DUSK FALLS has gained a run in a 1600m BM78 (Race 9 – 4:45 pm), with Harry Coffey taking the ride from barrier 12.

After coming through his last trial well a fortnight ago, his trainer believes Flemington will be a good option for his first-up run over the mile to get his preparation underway.

“Returning from a long layoff, his trials have been quite good. He seems to have a bit of sharpness about him,” said Williams.

SUNDAY

Casterton

Lightly-raced PERONNE continues his campaign over 1400m in a BM64 (Race 10 – 4:25 pm) at Casterton on Sunday.

After a week of light work to recover from a less than ideal run at Ballarat last month, his trainer Symon Wilde elected to trial him at Mortlake on Tuesday morning instead of a typical course proper gallop. The five-year-old began well, and despite not finding any cover, he still found the line nicely.

With Casterton typically being a front running track, we expect the horse to settle more prominently in this run. Jockey Luke Williams will be instructed to let the horse find his rhythm, relax and be strong through the line.

We wish all of the connections the best of luck!
