Mount Gambier Gold Cup Chance

Friday’s races will include the running of the Mount Gambier Gold Cup where OTI horse Extra Elusive is making his way over the border from Warrnambool to compete.

After a very encouraging run last start, where he finished second, the 8yo gelding has shown trainer Symon Wilde and connections again that he is most competitive over a staying distance. With the improvement shown in that run, he heads to the 2050m Mount Gambier Gold Cup with some confidence.

Extra Elusive finishing second over 2100m at Sandown in March, 2023.

Racing in a field of 12, Extra Elusive will be ridden by Harry Grace, carrying 58kg and jumping from barrier 8. See all race details and the full field here.

After his final gallop yesterday the Wilde team commented “I’m very happy with him, he covered the ground very well and settled good throughout the gallop. When he was asked to quicken he took a couple of strides to get going but once he did he hit the line very well. His recovery was super and I very much look forward to see him race on Friday.”

Extra Elusive is yet to win a race in Australia, but already has five wins on his CV from the UK, including two Group 3 wins both over 2000m. Hopefully he can add the Mount Gambier Gold Cup to his collection of wins.

Best of luck to all connections!
