Mighty Quinn to take his first steps at Pakenham

Mighty Quinn will make his debut for OTI partners over 1400m at Pakenham on Thursday night. Trained by Matt Cumani, the son of legendary UK trainer Luca, this 2YO son of Redwood has the breeding page and athleticism to suggest a quality staying future lies ahead.

Redwood was an outstanding galloper in his own right. He won a Group 1 on turf at Woodbine in Canada and was second in both the Hong Kong Vase and Dubai Sheema Classic. A son of High Chaparral, he has all the hallmarks of a superior staying sire.

OTI has a strong affiliation with Redwood through Romancer and Night’s Watch who were both winners in New Zealand in their 3YO season and have bright futures.  Additionally, a 2YO daughter of Redwood out of Cent To Win is currently with Archie Alexander and we have also joined Donna Logan in a yearling out of Margravine from the 2017 New Zealand sale.

Mighty Quinn was purchased in New Zealand as a yearling before transferring to Cumani in late-June 2016. The colt has relished the idyllic training facilities at Ballarat. His programme has been patient and geared towards having this colt aimed at better 3YO staying races during the 2017/18 season.

Mighty Quinn derived great benefit from recent jump-outs at Geelong and Ballarat but is still green and ‘coltish’. Cumani has been meticulously patient knowing that his best days would be as a three-year-old and beyond.

Ben Allen takes the ride on Mighty Quinn with the plan being little more than letting him balance up early and finish off strongly. Tonight is both a learning experience and another milestone in this colt’s education.

OTI wishes its partners all the best tonight in what is the first step in a long journey ahead for this exciting staying prospect.
