Lady Laguna is out to continue her hot run of form when she lines up in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
Having had an enforced three-month layoff over the winter, the mare has returned in career-best shape with comprehensive victories in the Listed Nudgee Stakes and $1m Magic Millions Fillies & Mares. The latter victory, over 1300m, has given Annabel Neasham and connections the confidence to press on towards a race like the 1500m Group 1 Coolmore Classic, getting there via Saturday’s Group 3 and a shot at the 1300m Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes late in February.
In an update to owners on Tuesday, Annabel Neasham said “She had a half mile piece of work this morning in company, which she did easily. She’s fit and moving well. With James McDonald booked, fingers crossed she’s tough to beat again.”
The mare will jump from barrier 7 of 8 but has shown very good versatility in recent times. Whether she presses forward or is ridden with cover, she’ll give her usual honest account.
