Lady Laguna gets her campaign back on track in star-studded trial

After spiking a temperature following her first up run in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality back in August, Lady Laguna returned to the trials this morning at Randwick in preparation for a race return.

Lady Laguna was there for a quiet hit out amongst a field of race fit Group 1 winners but as is often the case with her, she bounced well and put herself on speed. Travelling strongly throughout, the mare showed good zest through the line and pleased all connected.

Lady Laguna finished 2nd in her 1000m Randwick trial on October 8 (OTI silks).

Rider Tom Sherry said “She feels great. She was electric out of the machines, got into a nice rhythm, worked through her gears well and I didn’t have to ask her any questions to hit the line strongly.”

With the benefit of the day out, a trial under her belt and another piece of work or two, Lady Laguna will be ready to step out in the 1200m Group 3 Sydney Stakes at Randwick on Saturday week. Although connections initially hoped she’d be in the main event on October 19, the $2m consolation race will be ideal at this stage of her campaign.

We’re glad to see the mare back to full health and with a range of good options coming up over the next couple of months, we’re excited to see her back at the races.
