Indented Head, by both name and looks

Indented Head, the bayside hamlet, is a delightful town on the Bellarine Peninsula. Its namesake, Indented Head, the 3yo filly, is equally delightful for different reasons.

Both the town and the filly’s names are products of their looks; the town, because of indentation of the seashore; the filly as a result of a confrontation with a fence post at Spendthrift Farm. That’s where the comparisons end.

Indented Head, the racehorse will take her place in the 1500m 3yo Fillies Benchmark 70 at The Valley on Saturday. A late maturing type, Phillip Stokes gave her a couple of runs at two before putting her away to concentrate on her 3yo season. Her recent win at Cranbourne three weeks ago showed the benefit of that patience as she now has the chance to head to town for a rich VOBIS race.

OTI purchased the Swear filly privately from Spendthrift as a yearling at a time when her head lacked its distinctive feature. Between purchase and break in however, while the fencepost changed her looks, it didn’t impact the filly in any other way. She has retained the beautiful, smooth flowing action that encouraged OTI to acquire her in the first place.

On Saturday, with the benefits of Fred Kersley aboard, a good barrier and possibly a soft track, the lovely filly with the strange dent in her forehead will hopefully produce both Swear’s first city winner and provide ammunition for her trainer and owners to aim at even loftier targets.
