Import Speranzoso to hit the track

Very much under the radar over the last few months has been Speranzoso, a 4yo gelding by Siyouni with trainer Clayton Douglas.

He arrived in Australia in October last year after having six career starts in the UK, proving himself to have some talent along with a good deal of behavioural quirks. Speranzoso has settled in well, given time to acclimatise and mentally mature. The gelding initially pleased his pre-trainer Joe Cunningham, who had a high opinion of the 4yo.

“I’m very happy with the way this horse has progressed. He adapted to our way of working in a very good manner, which shows that he is a very intelligent horse. He has been working very well and I think the horse is very happy and in a good place!”

Continuing his progression for trainer Clayton Douglas, Speranzoso had three trials in the lead up to his Australian debut on Wednesday, all being very positive. Showing plenty of ability, the 4yo still has a few things to learn. Trainer Clayton Douglas comments “He has come along very well this preparation and we’re just working on getting a nice rhythm during the races with him, but I think he could be quite competitive first up.”

Speranzoso will make his Australian debut on Wednesday at Sale in Race 3 with Luke Nolen booked to ride.
