Group 3 kick-off for Annabel’s Lion

After two positive trial performances 4yo gelding Regal Lion could potentially return to the races on Saturday.

After his last win at Sandown in September last year, he was unlucky not to secure another win despite continuing to race exclusively at Listed and Group level for the remainder of his preparation. After a good spell, the gelding returned to trainer Annabel Neasham in good order and has worked progressively towards his possible first start back on Saturday in the Group 3 Lord Mayor’s Cup at Eagle Farm.

“His last gallop was very good. The horse we partnered him up with didn’t even reach him so I’m very happy with him. We’ve accepted for the race on Saturday, but should he not get a run we have another option the week after in Sydney. He’s ready to go and I look forward to seeing him back at the races.”, says Neasham.

Regal Lion (leading) gallops on course proper

Regal Lion is currently 1st emergency for Saturday’s Group 3 over 1800m with Chad Schofield booked to ride.

Best of luck to all connections and we look forward to hear the Lion roar again soon!
