Gailo Chop embarks on new career with esteemed show horse producer Dale Plumb

Three-time Group 1 winner Gailo Chop will embark on his post-racing career as a show horse with one of Australia’s most respected show horse producers, Dale Plumb. Gailo has also joined OTI’s Equine Welfare Program, where he will undoubtedly become one of its ‘poster-boys’.

Gailo Chop, who was retired following an illustrious career where he amassed almost $4.5 million in prize money, will be based at Plumb’s property in Cardinia, Victoria, where he arrived last Wednesday.

OTI’s CEO Terry Henderson said that all connected with Gailo Chop are thrilled to have him continue in competition in his post-racing career.

“He has had a magnificent racing career, and we’re hoping he can take the sheer braveness and tenacity that he consistently displayed on track into this new phase of his life,” Henderson commented.

“Dale is one of Australia’s leading show horse producers, having won many major Australian titles over the years. The ownership group unanimously agreed that he would be the perfect carer for their gallant horse.”

The ten-year-old galloper enters OTI’s Equine Welfare Program, which was established in November 2019 to ensure the ongoing wellbeing of retired thoroughbreds following their racing careers.

OTI’s Equine Welfare Coordinator, Campbell Wansbrough commented that the program has had immense success, with 22 retired OTI racehorses rehomed around Australia in the first 12 months.

“As part of the program, we will maintain detailed records of Gailo’s location, health and his owners. Through our fund, we are also able to provide financial support to ensure the ongoing care of our horses post-racing.”
