Rising stayer Funambulist, a 4yo gelding by New Bay in training with Annabel Neasham, is likely to start in the Stayer’s Cup over 2600m at Randwick on Saturday.
Since coming to Australia earlier this year, he has not been out of the first two in any of his five starts. After finishing 2nd four times, a few wondered whether he was a ‘bridesmaid’ like fan favourite and OTI horse Tom Melbourne, but he’s quashed that theory by winning twice at his last three outings.
Although the gelding faces a significant jump in grade, the claim of Ellen Hennessy means he will carry just 49kgs. He is a fit, happy horse who is proven at the distance, so we’re very excited to see how he acquits himself in Saturday class.
