A brief look back at our recent runners.
Stone Warrior (1st) finally broke his maiden status at Bendigo on Wednesday over 1300m. This boy has come back following a few throat procedures. We hope to see many more strong performances like this.
Praecereus (3rd) ran well first up at Bendigo on Wednesday over 1300m. He will improve off this run and over further distance.
Fastnet Squall (2nd) settled at the rear of the field from a wide gate and finished home strongly over 2500m on Friday at Salon-de-Provence. This horse is showing some real staying ability.
Night’s Watch (1st) after missing the start, ran home very strongly in a truly promising debut at Ellerslie on Saturday. He will now be campaigned towards the NZ Derby.
Romancer (1st) ran very well at Ellerslie on Saturday. A very exciting 3yo, winning a Listed race on his 3rd race start. He has a few races lined up before being aimed for the NZ Derby.
Gallic Chieftain (1st) stormed home at Pakenham on Saturday to claim his first Australian win. In only his third race start since arriving in Aus, the fiery chestnut put in a solid, yet green performance. Craig Williams reported with some more experience, he’s an exciting horse.
Caillebotte (9th) ran at Eagle Farm on Saturday in a BM80 over 1825m. Still building up to his preferred distance, we hope to see this fellow back in the winners circle.
Lord Van Percy (5th) over-raced in the early stages of the Listed Pakenham Cup on Saturday over 2500m and simply ran out of steam in the last 300m to finish in the money.
Coming up this week….
Mobaco has been nominated for the 1600m Coffs Cup on Friday at Coffs Harbour. Matt Dunn has been pleased with this gelding’s condition leading into the race.
Our Bazaar is aimed for a BM70 at Moonee Valley on Friday night over 2040m. This will be his first-up run this preparation.
Plymouth Road has been nominated for a race at Morphettville and at Flemington on Saturday. The Freedman stable will assess the most suitable track and field later in the week. If this young stayer can get a start on ground with a bit of give, he’ll be hard to beat.
Renew may run at Morphettville on Saturday in a BM82 over 2014m. He should come into this run with improvement from his first-up effort, two weeks ago at Moonee Valley.
Master Zephyr and Lidari are set to run in the Werribee Cup on Sunday over 2000m. Master Zephyr is coming off a good run at Moonee Valley, where he returned to form finishing 2nd. Lidari comes into this race after a few quiet weeks, following a disappointing run in Ballarat Cup. Let’s hope one of these Weir trained stayers can bring home the Cup!
