Trial Thursday | Cinturato & King Edward Impress at Cranbourne Trials

Monday’s Cranbourne trials featured two impressive heat winners for OTI and connections, with both horses moving closer to their race debuts.

The first standout performer was Cinturato, an exciting two-year-old gelding by Shamus Award. Currently in his first preparation under the guidance of Mark Walker, Cinturato was purchased from the Inglis Ready To Race Sale late last year. Since arriving at Cranbourne, he has done nothing but impress.

Despite showing signs of greenness throughout the trial, he came clear of his rivals late, finishing with his ears pricked – a strong indication of his natural ability. Jockey Mick Dee was most impressed with his performance.

While it was initially planned to tip him out after a trial experience, he has handled everything with ease so far and may now get to the races this time in. That decision will be made following a second trial on March 3.

Regardless of where he gets to this preparation, there looks to be plenty of exciting times in store for his ownership group, given the raw ability he has already displayed.

Later in the morning, King Edward, a son of Vadamos, showcased his staying potential in winning his 1400m heat. Now a 4yo, he has taken some time to grow into his frame and mature physically, but he now looks ready to take the next step.

Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr have earmarked the 1600m Maiden at Pakenham on March 6 for the gelding’s debut, where he’s expected to be most competitive. Being by Vadamos and out of a strong European dam line, this race should lay a foundation for him to get out over 2000m and beyond.

Exciting times lie ahead for both gallopers and we look forward to seeing them get their careers underway in the very near future.
