West Of Africa returns with Magics on the horizon

The OTI team is eagerly anticipating the return of West Of Africa, who steps back onto the racecourse this weekend. A stable favourite and proven performer, the six-year-old resumes in excellent order and looks ready to begin building toward another exciting summer campaign.

West Of Africa has been flying in his recent work, delivering two eye catching trials that have suggested he is finding something close to his best form again.

This Sunday he lines up in the 1400m TAB Handicap at Rosehill. A small claim from Braith Nock should work to his advantage and the wide barrier is no issue. He is likely to settle back in the field, as is his usual pattern, before being given the chance to finish off strongly late.

This race serves as an ideal starting point for his preparation. Whatever the result, he is expected to take natural improvement from the run as he builds fitness for what lies ahead.

All going well, West of Africa will have one more run following Sunday’s race before heading to the Gold Coast, where he will attempt to defend his Listed Magic Millions Cup title.

Last January, he produced an ultra-impressive turn of foot from the rear of the field to deny subsequent Group 1 winner Charm Stone in a thrilling edition of the Magic Millions Cup. That win showcased his trademark acceleration and determination, and it took his record to six victories and more than $1.4 million in prizemoney.

It’s an exciting period ahead, with his major target now firmly in sight. Best of luck to all connections. We look forward to seeing him make his return!
