Weekend Preview | September 21, 2018

The OTI silks will be seen on nine different racetracks over the course of the weekend.

Our weekend begins at Caulfield where our 3yo Medaglia d’Oro colt, Doroza steps out over the mile. His first two runs have been very encouraging and he is on target for the VRC Derby later in the spring.

Romancer heads up to Tatura for their feature race, the 1400m Tatura cup. Following a disappointing first-up result at Morphettville, he’ll be looking to bounce back and record his first win on Australian shores.

Night’s Watch, a fellow son of Redwood is set to take his place in the 2000m Group 3 at Caulfield. This exciting gelding has had an extremely strong campaign so far, including a last start third-place finish in the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley.   He’s fourth up, and he’ll be right in the finish once again tomorrow afternoon.  A win tomorrow will grant him an exemption into this year’s Caulfield Cup.

Also at Caulfield, Fastnet Tempest will line up in the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes. The stable has targeted this race and is delighted with his work heading into tomorrow’s affair. He won at Caulfield over the 1400m trip in his last campaign, so we are hoping for a big run.

Up at Rosehill, Romanesque will contest a 2000m BM88. This gelding has been hitting the line very well in his last few starts and will relish the step up in trip. With young gun apprentice Fred Kersley on board, he’ll be most competitive.

On Saturday night, Stormy Road, a half-sister to King’s Will Dream is set to run in a 1600m 2yo Handicap at Newmarket. Following a strong last start win, she’ll be forced to carry the top weight. However, Luca Cumani has a high opinion of this filly, and she’s heading into Saturday night in excellent order.

On Sunday night in France, Le Musicien will be seeking to make it two in a row following an impressive 4.5 length win last start. He is running in a 2200m race at La-Roche-Posay, where he’ll be hard to beat. This gelding has a bright future and expected to bring much more joy to his female owners. Shares are still available in this promising 3yo.

In other meetings, Given Time gets his chance to break through at Kembla Grange on Saturday, Scherzoso will be further improved by his run over 1600m at Ballarat on Sunday. Urban Royal, also on Sunday, is expected to be competitive at Port Macquarie over 1500m.
