Vivy Air steps up to Listed level

An impressive winner at Geelong less than a fortnight ago, Vivy Air will back up at Sandown on Saturday in the Listed Anzac Day Stakes in just her third career start. The daughter of Hellbent showed good talent in her last run with a strong run to the line, beating second placegetter Hellara, also by Hellbent, by 1.2 lengths.

Vivy Air wins the 2yo Maiden at Geelong over 1200m on April 18, 2023.

A race rescheduled from the cancelled Flemington meeting on Tuesday, the filly has had a few more days between runs to prepare for her black-type target. Trainer Archie Alexander comments: “I’m very happy with her, she’s nice and fresh for the race on Saturday. Obviously with the longer break between races we gave her some fast work this morning, but the few days more between races actually benefits her, obviously due to a very sad reason with the loss of Dean Holland. The step up in class will be interesting, but I think she’s worthy of giving it a go and will go for a break afterwards to return in the spring. I’m looking forward to Saturday.”

The field and barriers for the race have stayed as they were originally drawn for Flemington. The only change, due to jockey unavailability, sees Jye McNeil replace Declan Bates for the run. See all race details and the full field here.

Best of luck to all connections of Vivy Air!
