Under Your Spell tackling another G1 in South Africa

Highly talented filly Under Your Spell will start in yet another Group 1 in South Africa, the Garden Province Stakes over 1600m in Greyville.

OTI recently had their first runner in South Africa when broodmare prospect Under Your Spell finished seventh in the G1 South African Fillies’ Sprint (1200m) at Scottsville on June 4.

OTI secured a majority interest in the Group 1-winning two-year-old after she almost doubled her tally at the highest level when runner-up in the G1 Princess Charlene Empress Club Stakes (1600m) at Turffontein on April 23.

Under Your Spell runs in Saturday’s G1 Garden Province Stakes (1600m) at Greyville which is due to be her final start in her native surrounds.

It’s a tough race although she is the second-highest rated filly in the race. I think the rise to the mile will suit her but she might even be looking for further than that,” Henderson said.

Under Your Spell will begin a four-month progress to relocate from South Africa to Britain, via a three-month stint in Mauritius, due to current quarantine protocols.

“The idea of that first up run (when seventh in the South African Fillies’ Sprint) was to give her preparation for this race, and this was always her big aim at the end of her three-year-old year,” Henderson said.

“Irrespective of the result she will be heading off to quarantine and then we’ll take her to Britain for a racing preparation most likely with Harry Eustace (based at Newmarket) and see if she comes up.

If she comes up, we’ll aim towards Royal Ascot 2023. But if she doesn’t we’ll give her a nice easy six months and put her in-foal to a leading stallion.”
