Two wins on the board on Wednesday in what were fantastic front-running efforts. Both Mr Satchmo and Angelic Spirit took control of their races to lead into the straight, with their respective fields working hard but ultimately unable to catch them.
Angelic Spirit was back to her winning form yesterday when taking out the No Fuss Event Hire BM70 Handicap over 1400m at Kyneton. Having achieved top three placings in her last two starts for trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, she was knocking on the door for another win – going into the race a strong bookie favourite.
Linda Meech gave her a brilliant ride, allowing the horse to run freely and did little to hamper her natural rhythm. Angelic Spirit relished in the tempo and looked the winner coming into the straight, before kicking away further from the 200m mark. A number of her owners were on course for Kyneton Cup Day and were thrilled to be in attendance for her win.
Mr Satchmo was another key winner, representing the European leg of the OTI team in winning the Listed Grand Prix du Nord at Chantilly. Mr Satchmo took control of the race and dominated his field powering away from them in the last 100m. It was an emphatic win, outclassing some top level French three year olds. Trainer Antoine de Watrigant has the horse on song, having now won 3 Listed races in the horse’s last 4 starts. An impressive statistic given the quality of racing in France.
We won’t see Mr Satchmo again in 2018, and will be prepared now to contest various races during the European spring. After which, there are plans to try to bring the horse to Australia – also for our spring season of racing. An exciting future prospect, OTI and his connections are excited to see what Mr Satchmo’s career holds!
