Two Fillies Ready to Bloom

We’re excited to see Soverato and Single Red go head-to-head in the Group 2 The Roses this weekend at Doomben.

Recognised as the main lead-up to the G1 Queensland Oaks, The Roses serves as an ideal stepping stone for both our fillies looking to peak over the longer trip in June, and both runners bring strong, albeit different, form lines into the contest.

Soverato returns following a solid autumn campaign. She produced a strong runner-up finish in the G3 Adrian Knox Stakes before stepping up to Group 1 level in the Australian Oaks, where she finished 5th after not quite seeing out the strongly run 2400 metres.

Since then, the filly has been given time to freshen up at the farm and arrived in Queensland in excellent order. Trainer Chris Waller has been pleased with her progression, noting she has trained on well over the past week and is enjoying the slightly warmer, but wet, weather.

Although drawn wide in barrier 12, she is still expected to be competitive in a big field with Ryan Maloney aboard.

Single Red has already had a taste of Queensland racing this preparation and has made a pleasing start to her campaign. She finished runner-up after a brave run in the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet two weeks ago, where she was unlucky not to get a win on the board.

She’s expected to improve a lot from that run, setting her up perfectly for The Roses and her broader Oaks aim. Jason Collet will take the ride this weekend and although also drawn wide in barrier 14, trainer Andrew Forsman is optimistic heading into the race: “She is thriving in her new environment. Everything is spot on with her work and she’s ready to go.”

With both fillies building toward the Queensland Oaks, Saturday’s contest will be a key test and a strong showing from either runner would stamp them as genuine contenders for Group 1 success on June 6th.
