Trio of chances at The Championships

As we head to Sydney for Day Two of The Championships, there are three Group 1’s there for the taking and we will saddle up each way chances in all three.

Dominating the media has been the champion mare, Winx who will be bidding for her twenty-fifth consecutive win. However, our in-form galloper Gailo Chop, will be giving her a run for her money.  The race will be over his preferred distance of 2000m, and the Weir stable believe him to be most competitive in the race.

Group 1 winning filly Aloisia will be stepping out in the AJC Oaks over 2400m.  She has been in Sydney for a few weeks now, and the stable has reported she has been working well and is in great form heading into the race.

The Sydney Cup is set to be an exciting race for Lord Fandango. The weather in Sydney has stayed dry, so he should get the track conditions he relishes.  He has also drawn the inside barrier, so all appears favourable.  It is a big field however, so luck in running will no doubt play a part for all contenders.  We hope luck is on our side.

At Caulfield, Grey Lion will be racing for the first time as a gelding.  It would not surprise to see him run a forward race first up.  All going well, he is likely to head to the Warrnambool Cup following this.

On Sunday, at one of our favourite tracks, it is Terang Cup day.  We have won the Terang Cup twice in recent years and could have two runners taking part in this years’ edition.  Shakopee for Matt Cumani will be there. He has drawn an inside barrier with Dean Holland taking the ride. Romanesque is the second emergency for the race, so we are hoping he gains a start.

Terang will also host the race debut of Mangels for Matt Williams.  A son of Magic Albert, ‘Alby’ trialled quite well recently at Camperdown and it will be great to see him under race conditions for the first time.

Best of luck to all connections!
