Thousand Guineas in the Air

We approach another exciting weekend of racing, with Vivy Air expected to take her place in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield this Saturday.

Saturday’s race will be Vivy Air’s first test at Group 1 level, having finished 2nd in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude last start behind Coeur Volante (a winner of three of her four career starts). Beaten just over a length that day, Vivy Air recorded the fastest last 200m and 400m of the race, coming from tenth place into 2nd place within the last furlong of the race. Indeed, the overall race time of 1:23:53 of the G2 Prelude rated better than the Open Handicap for 3yo colts and geldings over the same distance on the day.

Vivy Air has won two of her five career starts to date in addition to that Group 2 placing. The daughter of Hellbent has progressed well in the hands of trainer Archie Alexander, who has a high opinion of the 3yo.

Alexander commented following a recent Ballarat jumpout: “Angling into the clear coming around the turn, Declan gave her a squeeze and she picked up nicely and was strong to the line, winning the jumpout. We were very pleased with her performance and this will top her off nicely for the $1.5 million Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield next Saturday.”

With this encouraging trial in between runs we look forward to seeing her step out at Group 1 level on Saturday. See all nomination for the race here.

Best of luck to all connections!
