The Attraction of Fillies

OTI‘s legion of fillies continues to grow and prosper. For their owners, they are not only providing some exciting racing experiences, but they are also laying foundations for broodmare careers after leaving the track.

Over the years, Aloisia, Noblesse Oblige and others have provided great return to owners post their racing. This year, Auyantepui, Chaillot and Hasstobegood look poised to start careers as broodmares either with their existing or new owners.

During the autumn, a number of three-year-old’s are expected to succeed. Warrnambool trainer Matthew Williams has Prospettiva on her way to Launceston for the Listed Tasmanian Oaks on Sunday. More locally, Phillip Stokes’ talented daughter of Swear, Indented Head hopes to justify a future trip to Adelaide with a win at Pakenham on Thursday.

In New Zealand, both Principessa (Roger James & Robert Wellwood) and Seven Twenty (Shaun & Emma Clotworthy) have shown enough ability to make their presence felt over the autumn and winter months, with QLD Carnival campaigns potentially on the agenda.

Hot on the heels of the three-year-old’s are the youngsters lead by Annabel Neasham’s Lady Laguna, who is currently one of the favoured fillies for the Golden Slipper. She’ll soon be joined on the track by Tom Dabernig’s Wicklow Lass, Matt Cumani’s Self Worth, Grahame Begg’s Miss Subtly and Andrew Noblet’s Desert Fun. They all look very promising types.

It is always a great feeling for owners knowing that after having the excitement of a win, they then have a filly that has also increased her value.
